Women's Soccer Coaching Staff
Head Coach: Kris Lowry
June 18, 2021
Interim head men's soccer coach Kris Lowry has been elevated to the leader of the men's and women's soccer programs at Edmonds College. Lowry, who was in his second stint at the college as an assistant this past spring, assumes the role of Director of Soccer effective immediately.
Lowry has previous NWAC head coaching experience at Olympic College where he was head coach from 2008-2011. He started his coaching career in 1987 when he worked on Whidbey Island at Northwest Soccer Camp under Cliff McGrath as a counselor and coach.
Lowry was a youth academy coach and assistant for the Kitsap Pumas of the Premier Development League (PDL), and assisted the men's team at Edmonds in 2015 under Brandon Mitalas, helping the Tritons to a 3rd place finish at the NWAC Tournament. Lowry has his USSF "B" License and is currently a senior coach for Sound FC, leading three teams this past year -- Boys 05, Boys 06, and Girls 02A.
Lowry is also a Triton alum and helped the 1992 Edmonds squad to the NWAC title game. He captained the 1993 team the following year before transferring to Arizona State University. His playing career post-college included several pro, semi-pro, and amateur teams with stops at the Arizona Sandsharks (indoor), Hibernian Saints, Utah Blitzz, and Pittsburgh Riverhounds.
"Kris is a positive person; I know he will do everything in his power to help our student-athletes develop in soccer and in life," said athletic director Spencer Stark.
Overseeing both programs will be a challenge, but Lowry is up to the task.
"I am a Triton. From having worn the uniform and coached on previous staffs, I know the pride and prestige that goes with being part of this institution," said Lowry. His vision is to integrate the men's and women's teams together to build a larger family and prepare them for the next level. "Championship cultures create championship people and teams. It is an honor and blessing to represent Triton Athletics and the alumni. This is a dream come true for me," Lowry added.
Darrel Marcelle will join Lowry as the Associate Head Coach for both programs.
Lowry grew up in Lake Forest Park and is a Shorecrest High School graduate. His high school coach was Teddy Mitalas, the former Triton women's soccer head coaching legend who earned NWAC championships in 2000 and 2002.
Lowry resides in Edmonds with his girlfriend Katy and dog Rhett. He has three children -- Zachary, Shealyn, and Malia.
Associate Head Coach: Darrel Marcelle
Darrel Marcelle, who has an extensive soccer coaching background, joins Lowry as the Associate Head Coach for the women's soccer staff. He will enter his first year in the fall of 2021 after assisting with the women's team for a few weeks at the end of the 2021 spring COVID-season.
Marcelle was a member of the Trinidad and Tobago national team after playing and graduating from NCAA DI Howard University. He holds his USSF "A" License, is certified by the Italian Football Federation, and is currently the technical director for BVB International Academy which includes overseeing all club operations. He has coached at Empoli FC in the Italian Serie A League, been an assistant at Mount St. Mary's University (NCAA DII), and was the National Team coach for Trinidad and Tobago's women's team, serving on the staff for the U17 and U20 senior women's squads (2019-2021). In 2014 Marcelle founded F.C. Bellevue and was the Director of Football Operations until 2019. From 2012-2014 he was the Director of Coaching for Newport Youth Soccer Club. He has also coached and directed at Fuerza F.C. in Everett, ID2 PSPL Academy, Issaquah Soccer Club, and various organizations in Virginia and Maryland. Marcelle has multiple NSCAA (National Soccer Coaches Association of America) diplomas including an advanced regional diploma and one in goalkeeping. He is a member of the NSCAA and BSCAA (Black Soccer Coaches Association of America).
"I am excited and privileged to work for this institution, which will give our student-athletes the opportunity to reach their goals on and off the field. I am confident that our staff will be successful and create a fun learning environment for all the players in our program," said Marcelle.
Assistant Coach: Tai Po
Tai Po joins Kris Lowry's coaching staff for the 2021 season. Po has been coaching premier soccer for over 20 years in the greater Puget Sound area. She received her USSF "B" license in 2009 and plans to continue on to obtain her "A" license. Po was one of 20 coaches selected across the nation to receive a full scholarship to attend KNVB courses for her youth coaching certificate. Po grew up in Edmonds.
