McLeod tabbed as coach of women's hoops

LYNNWOOD – Josh McLeod has been named head coach of the Edmonds College women’s basketball program. McLeod served as the interim coach this past season, stepping into the role the week of the team’s first game.

It’s a fresh start and exciting time for Triton women’s basketball.

McLeod is also the head coach of the Northwest Blazers 17U AAU girls team. The Under Armour-sponsored travel club is comprised of top high school players from Washington, Oregon, Idaho, and Montana.

McLeod played men’s basketball at Edmonds for legendary Hall of Fame coach Keith Kingsbury from 2002-2004 before moving on to Dickinson State University (N.D.), where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration with a minor in Management.

Balino, Balagso, Agbayani and Cates moving on

All four Triton women's basketball sophomores are moving on to four-year colleges. 

Gieani Balino, who earned 1st-Team North Region recognition this year, was one of the top scorers in the NWAC. She will take her talents south to play for the University of Saint Katherine (NAIA). The Firebirds compete in the California Pacific Conference (CALPAC). Rachael Balagso will join Balino in San Marcos, Calif. at the University of Saint Katherine. The pesky sophomore guard impacted the game on both ends of the floor in her two seasons with the Tritons. Sheilaika Agbayani was a mainstay in the Triton backcourt the past two years and was named to the NWAC All-Academic Team this year for her efforts in the classroom. The left-handed guard was an All-Defensive team selection from the North Region as a frosh and will play for Missouri Valley College in Marshall, Mo. The Vikings are members of the KCAC. Kalei Cates has inked with Douglas College in New Westminster, British Columbia. The Royals compete in the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA).


Agbayani earns Academic Excellence Award

Women's basketball sophomore guard Sheilaika Agbayani has been named to the NWAC Winter Sports Academic Excellence Team. The Lahainaluna High School product carried a cumulative 3.73 GPA headed into winter quarter this season. Qualifications for the NWAC award are to be a sophomore in eligibility, have a minimum of 36 credits earned and a 3.25 cumulative GPA.


Balino named to NWAC North 1st and All-Defensive Team

Women's basketball sophomore guard Gieani Balino (Campbell HS, Ewa Beach, Hawaii) was rewarded for her fantastic season as she earned 1st-Team recognition. Balino led the Tritons scoring 18.4 ppg (3rd best overall in the NWAC). She was also selected to the All-Defensive Team. Balino averaged 2.2 steals per game. Additionally, she pulled in 5.1 rebounds per game, and shared the rock to the tune of 2.9 assists per game.


Edmonds downs Peninsula, moves to 2-0 in region play

PORT ANGELES -- The Edmonds College women’s basketball program has started regional play with two wins after Saturday’s triumph in Port Angeles over Peninsula College.

The Tritons shot 48% from the field and held the Pirates to 32% shooting. Just over one minute into the game they took a lead they would not relinquish. At the break, they led 35-27 and hung on to claim the important 74-67 road victory. Jerzie Pluid recorded her second double-double in the past three games with 14 points and 10 rebounds, and was one of four players to reach double figures. Read More > >
