Program Overview

The Edmonds College Intramural Program provides opportunities for participants to compete in various skill levels against other students, faculty, and staff members in a wide variety of sports. The Intramural Program also offers the opportunity for participants to play together in co-recreational sports. Participants may choose to participate as an individual or as part of team activities.

Intramural sports are a fun way to play, meet friends, learn new sports, test your physical ability, and relieve stress. Most activities allow you to select the days and times you play, as well as the people on your team.



All full fee paying students are eligible to participate in the Intramural Program.

Faculty and Staff

All currently employed Edmonds College faculty and staff members may participate in the Intramural Sports Program .

Athletes off season

Full fee paying varsity athletes of Edmonds College who are in the off season are eligible to participate in the Intramural Sports Program ONLY if they fill out the athletes application form and have the permission of their coach.

Athletes in season

All athletes of Edmonds College in season are not eligible to participate in the Intramural Sports Program.

Playing on more than one team

A player may compete on as many teams as desired throughout the season except the following situations:

  • A player is not allowed to compete in the competitive level and recreation level at the same time.
  • A player is not allowed to compete in different teams in the same league.
  • It is the player’s responsibility if the game schedules of the different teams he or she competes in conflicts. The player needs to make his or her own decision which game he or she would like to join under this situation.
  • Once playoffs have started, a player may not switch teams if the team they are playing for is eliminated. 

Roster Additions

Additions to rosters may be made only during the regular season. Additions are made by captains sending the roster additions form to and must be made by no later than three hours before the game they wish to attend.

Divisions and Leagues


Open to all male students, faculty, and staff members who meet the specific eligibility requirements of intramural play.

Competitive – Each league - Men’s, Women’s and Co-ed – has a Competitive division. This division is for those teams and participants that want to play against the top competition at Edmonds College Intramural Sports. Choosing the Competitive division also implies that each team in this league can be competitive against other teams.

Recreation – Each league - Men’s, Women’s and Co-ed – has a recreation division. This division is for those teams that do not want to compete against the top competition at Edmonds College, and are more interested in the camaraderie of participating in sport with their peers. Teams are only eligible for recreation if all the players on the roster fit the eligibility requirements.


All participants are expected to adhere to an honesty policy with regard to eligibility, rules interpretation, and administrative procedure. Unsportsmanlike behavior might result in ejection. UPON BEING EJECTED FROM ANY GAME OR CONTEST, THE INDIVIDUAL(S) INVOLVED ARE AUTOMATICALLY SUSPENDED FROM FURTHER INTRAMURAL COMPETITION AND MUST ARRANGE AN APPOINTMENT WITH THE INTRAMURAL PROGRAMMER TO PETITION FOR PROBATIONARY STATUS.

Unsportsmanlike behavior includes but is not limited to:

  • Use of foul or derogatory language, threatening, or verbally abusing any other participant or intramural sports employee before, during or after the game.
  • Participating in a game for which he or she is ineligible.
  • Arguing or talking back to the intramural sports staff. Only the captain should address an official or sports supervisor, and only if have done so in a respectful and courteous manner.
  • Intentionally hitting, striking, pushing, shoving, grabbing, and/or throwing and/or kicking an object at another individual.
  • Mistreating the facility, equipment or supplies of the intramural program or the Edmonds College Athletics department.
  • Attempting to sign in using another person’s EdPass ID or any other form of identification.
  • The possession and/or use of alcohol and/or drugs at an intramural activity are strictly prohibited. Teams found with alcohol and/or drugs or intoxicated will be removed for the remainder of the intramural season.
  • Physical fighting is not tolerated in intramural competition. Players who use aggressive physical violence in any intramural game will be removed from the team roster for the rest of the intramural season. The player’s team will be placed on probation. A second violation by any member on the probationary team automatically disqualifies the team from intramural league competition for the duration of the season. Attention: If you are attacked, DO NOT FIGHT BACK. Any player involved in physical violence will be removed from their team.
  • Due to safety concerns, no jewelry will be allowed to be worn by any participant. The only exceptions are medical alert necklaces and bracelets, which must be taped down by an intramural supervisor.

Registration and Roster Information

General Information

Intramural registration will take place throughout the quarter based on when each event begins. Teams and individuals will register by sending the completed application form to . Rosters must be fully complete with the minimum number and within the maximum number of participants before it can be turned in. Players may be added to the team roster through the last week of the regular season. Failure to have a complete roster makes a team ineligible for playoffs. Placing a name on a game score sheet does not make a person eligible to participate.

Creating a Team

  1. Team registrations will be taken on a first come first serve basis until that league is full.
  2. Team names cannot be changed once the schedule is posted.
  3. The Intramural Sports Department reserves the right to change any team that is deemed potentially inappropriate or offensive.
  4. Teams are required to wear like colored shirts/uniforms based on the team colors that have been filled out on the team roster form. Permanent numbers are required on the shirts for basketball and soccer.

Free Agent

  1. Individual participants may join a team by either accepting an invitation from a captain or joining the free agent and wait for the contact from captains.

  3. Any participant wishing to join a team and play in a game must be made by no later than 3 hours before the game they wish to attend.  

Protest and Appeals

All protests must be made within 24 hours of the original match. If a team would like to protest during the game the eligibility of a player from the opposing team, the team captain must notify the official to stop play and then notify the intramural programmer on site. The game will be completed and the protest will be resolved after the conclusion of the contest. If a player or players are found to be ineligible, the team committing the infraction will be forced to forfeit the contest. If this happens during the playoffs the other team will advance to the next round. A protest can be made up to 24 hours after the contest during the regular season.

In this scenario the team committing the infraction will be forced to forfeit that game and all other games that they used ineligible players.

To make an eligibility protests, the captain of the protesting team must submit a formal protest to . The following information must be provided:

  1. Date, time, place, and level of game.
  2. Names of the teams involved.
  3. Name of the ineligible player.
  4. Reason why player is believed to be ineligible

Final decisions regarding all eligibility issues are the discretion of the Intramural Coordinators

Forfeits and Postponements


Teams are strongly encouraged to arrive at least 15 minutes early at the scheduled game site to check-in and prepare for the game. A double forfeit may be recorded if neither team is fully represented. Game officials will not officiate once a forfeit is declared. Teams that forfeit more than twice during the regular season will become ineligible for the playoffs. Forfeits may also be declared by the intramural staff for policy violations (eligibility, unsportsmanlike conduct, etc.).


In those instances when a team cannot play one of their regularly scheduled games, the Intramural Program provides some opportunity to reschedule the game. The captain of the team making the request must send the reschedule request form to and meet with the Intramural programmer at least 48 hours before the scheduled game time to reschedule the game. Leaving a voice message is not considered adequate notification. If the request comes within the 48 hour time period before the time of the contest, it will be considered a forfeit.


If a team knows they cannot make a game and will not be able to reschedule the contest, they must send a Default Form to at least 12 hours before the scheduled game time. Teams will receive a loss, but will not be charged with a forfeit.

Team Captains

Team captains are a vital link in the communication process between intramural program and the individual participants.

Specific duties include:

Preseason Duties:

  1. Select team name, team color, team logo, division, level, day, and time the team wants to play (always have alternate choices).
  2. Submit completed team roster
  3. Read and comprehend the Intramural Sports Handbook and activity rules and regulations, and ensure that all team members understand and abide by them, especially sportsmanship and eligibility.

In-Season Duties:

  1. Inform team members of league and playoff game schedules to ensure enough team members are present at each game to avoid a forfeit.
  2. Provide at least one non-player per game to serve as a volunteer scorekeeper or timer when needed.
  3. Contact Intramural programmer for team roster information, free agent information, protest, reschedule and default.
  4. Provide the like colored shirts/uniforms based on the team colors and the requirement of intramural program for each game. 

General Duties:

  1. Control team behavior and accept the responsibility for the conduct of all team members and spectators.
  2. Maintain a cooperative attitude with all intramural officials; serve as an example of good sportsmanship for others to follow.
  3. Be familiar with the rules and officiating techniques of all sports entered.
  4. Accommodate players without teams by inviting "Free Agents" to play on your team. 

Players Without a Team

Each person who chooses to participate in an intramural event assumes responsibilities as an individual participant. An individual participant’s responsibilities include (but are not limited to) the following:

  1. Know their team’s game time and location.
  2. Arrive on site and check in with the Intramural Officiate at least 15 minutes prior to the start of every contest.
  3. Present a valid EdPass ID at EVERY event in which they participate.
  4. Be familiar with all rules, policies and procedures including sportsmanship and eligibility.
  5. Understand that ONLY their team captain has the authority to discuss any issues with the Intramural Officiates, and that failure to respect this may result in ejection.
  6. Cooperate before, during, and after competition with any Intramural Officiates.

Safety and Injuries

The possibility of injury exists in all sports. Intramural Sports assumes no responsibility for injuries. However, basic first aid will be available at game sites. All participants acknowledge an assumption of risk by their voluntary participation in intramural activities. When a participant is bleeding, has an open wound, or has blood on his or her uniform, the player will be directed to leave the game.

The injured player may not return to the game until the bleeding has stopped, the open wound covered, and/or the bloody uniform is changed. The game may continue play without the injured player at the discretion of the intramural official.


Official Intramural Championship Shirts and/or special sponsor prizes will be presented to all winners upon the conclusion of each activity. Participants must be present at the championship game to receive their award. All intramural awards not claimed by participants by the end of each quarter shall be forfeited.


  1. Referees deserve the players' highest respect because they represent the character and integrity of the game. During intramural play, all sports Referees are students , they are learning, receiving training, and gaining experience in sports officiating. These students are working in one of the most demanding and challenging situations possible: to officiate for their peers. Intramural sports referees are the key to a successful program, and should be treated with courtesy, patience, and consideration.
  2. The intramural program recruits, trains, evaluates, and assigns referees for the games. Comments and suggestions regarding the performance of intramural sports referees should be directed only to the intramural programmer.
  3. Individuals interested in working as an intramural sports referee are encouraged to contact the intramural coordinator. These are on-campus paying positions with flexible work hours. Referees are recruited for a wide variety of sports programs.
