Transcripts for Placement

Transferring in? Your past courses can help you with placement!

Edmonds College offers a variety of ways to assess your skills to place you in the right courses. One way is to provide unofficial transcripts from your past schools for review (part of the Alternative Assessment options). This method provides placement for English (ENGL) and Mathematics (MATH) courses.

In-State Transcripts

If you completed coursework at another college or university in Washington state, take the following steps:

  • Email: Send the following in an e-mail to Testing and Assessment Services at testingcenter@edmonds.edu:
    • Your full legal name
    • Edmonds College student ID number (ctcLink ID#)
    • The name(s) of the school(s) you attended
    • A scanned copy of your photo ID (.PDF preferred)
    • Your unofficial transcripts (.PDF preferred)
  • In-Person: Bring your photo ID and unofficial transcripts to the Testing and Assessment Services office. Be sure to check their hours of availability before heading over!

Out-of-State Transcripts

If you completed coursework outside of Washington state, take the following steps:

  • Email: Send the following in an e-mail to Credentials and Evaluations at credentials@edmonds.edu:
    • Your full legal name
    • Edmonds College student ID number (ctcLink ID#)
    • The name(s) of the school(s) you attended
    • A scanned copy of your photo ID (.PDF preferred)
    • Your unofficial transcripts (.PDF preferred)

For additional details about this Alternative Assessment option, please check out the Transcripts from Other Institutions page.

Frequently Asked Questions

Depending on the type of transcript, it can take 1 to 3 business days. Older and more complex transcripts may require more research time.

Possibly! Check out the Testing and Assessment Service’s page on Alternative Assessment options for more information.

If your placement does not meet the minimum prerequisites for the course you’d like to take, you will need to contact the division in charge of that course for entry.

Check with the Testing and Assessment Services team to make sure the placement scores took in ctcLink. If you still encounter problems, double-check the information on the course you are trying to register for (i.e., is the course full? Are you trying to register too early?). If you continue to have problems, please reach out to our colleagues in Enrollment Services for help!

Please be aware that this placement is for prerequisite checking only. We are checking primarily for ENGL& 101 and Math level only. If you would like to receive course credit for your past work, please check out our Transcript Evaluation process!

Each college, university, and academic institution is different, and unfortunately, we do not know how to access unofficial transcripts from each. We recommend going to your previous school’s website and searching for ‘unofficial transcript’ or reaching out to their support teams for help!

  • At this time, we are only able to assess individual Math courses taken within the last five years (from the time that we are contacted by the student).
  • Students that have already earned bachelor’s degrees will be placed in ENGL& 102 and MATH& 107, regardless of when the degree was completed.
  • Placement scores do not override instructor determinations. If an instructor believes you have been placed incorrectly, they should work with you and supporting staff to help you register for a better fit.
