Relationships in STEM Education (RISE)

The main focus of RiSE is offering faculty/staff mentors to students in all STEM subjects and peer mentors to students in Engineering, Biology, Health Sciences, or Computer Science (we hope to expand to other STEM departments in the future!). Both types of mentors will support your success by cultivating a thoughtful relationship with you and by actively listening to and engaging with you to help strengthen your sense of community at Edmonds College. Mentors also serve as knowledgeable guides who can connect you to the right people and resources on campus to help you succeed and serve as positive role models.

Mentorship has been shown to improve the following for the mentee:

  • Academic achievement
  • Self-efficacy
  • Social skills
  • Feeling of connection to school and peers
  • Likelihood of staying in school and graduating

Additional benefits of RiSE include:

  • A community of peers in STEM
  • Academic and professional development workshops
  • Career exploration events
  • Opportunities to volunteer for RiSE-related workshops and events
  • College-to-career guidance
