Types of Classes

In-person (web enhanced)

All instruction is in-person, either on campus or another site. Requires some use of web-based tools, which may include communication through Canvas, submitting assignments, reviewing grades, accessing feedback or expectation to use the internet for conducting research. All instructional hours are conducted during the class time.

Hybrid

Instruction is both in-person and online. Classes replace a portion of in-class time with online work. Students will complete some learning using online tools. Requires use of web-based tools for accessing learning materials, taking tests, submitting assignments, and participating in online forums or real-time discussions, among other online activities.

Online Scheduled

Instruction is done online through web-based tools, primarily Canvas and a virtual meeting software such as Zoom. This class requires virtual meetings at a specific time for some or all of the instruction. The classroom will say “Scheduled Online Meetings.” This is also called a synchronous class.

Online Scheduled with in-person activities

Same as Online Scheduled; however, there will be a requirement to come to campus for a specific reason such as picking up required materials, participating in an in-person activity, or taking a test. See class notes for details and additional information.

Online Asynchronous with in-person activities

Most instruction is done online through web-based tools, primarily Canvas. Students review materials such as readings and instructional videos online, on their own time. In addition, there will be a requirement to come to campus for a specific reason such as picking up required materials, participating in an in-person activity, or taking a test. See class notes for details and additional information.

Online Asynchronous

All instruction is done online through web-based tools, primarily Canvas. Students review materials such as readings and instructional videos online, on their own time. This class does not require specific meeting times. Your instructor will provide due dates and students will have flexibility in what time of day they will work on the course. The classroom will say “Online: No Schedule Times.”

Individualized instruction

Classwork is arranged with a faculty member.

Flexible

This class offers flexible attendance options. Options vary and may include attending sessions in-person in the classroom, participating synchronously online, or completing equivalent work asynchronously online. See class notes for details and additional information for what attendance options are available for a flexible class.
