Edmonds CC to celebrate International Education Week Nov. 12-15

Edmonds College and International Student Services celebrate International Education Week with a series of cultural activities Nov. 12-15 that are free and open to the public.

International Education Week, an initiative from the U.S. State and Education departments, is part of an effort to promote international understanding and build support for international educational exchange.

All week, the Edmonds CC bookstore will offer specials focusing on international education and the Brier Grill will serve international cuisine.

The main events include:

Study Abroad and Country Fair | 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Wed., Nov. 13 | Triton Student Center, Brier Hall

Share food, culture, and fun with international students from 12 countries — Bangladesh, Brazil, the Dominican Republic, Egypt, Ghana, India, Indonesia, the Ivory Coast, Kenya, Pakistan, Panama, and South Africa. Highlights include henna tattoos and a cultural performance. Representatives of college’s Study Abroad program, Conversation Partner program, International Student Services activities, the Global Volunteers Club, and Central Washington University will also be present.

The Seattle Passport agency will have information on how to apply for a U.S. passport, application drop-off locations, the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program, and more.

“Where I’m From” cultural identity workshop | 4:30-6 p.m. Wed., Nov. 13 | Rainier Place Common Room
The Conversation Partner Program will host a creative workshop exploring cultural identity and artistic expression through poetry and painting.

“Two Million Minutes” film and discussion | 12:30-2:30 p.m. Thurs., Nov. 14 | Black Box Theatre, Mukilteo Hall
The documentary film focuses on high school students in China, India, and the U.S. as they navigate the world of secondary education. Following the film, a panel of Edmonds CC students representing the three countries will discuss how the educational systems in their countries have prepared them for 21st-century careers. The film event is made possible through a grant from the college’s Arts, Culture, and Civic Engagement program.
