Job search July: Workshops at WorkSource

07/14/2009

With unemployment nearing 10 percent in Snohomish County, many people are out looking for work and the WorkSource Aerospace Center at Edmonds College stands ready to help with job search workshops offered throughout the month. The workshops are free and open to the public and will focus on how to set goals for a job search, find job opportunities, and prepare a targeted resume and cover letter that will improve the odds of landing a specific position. There will also be workshops about how to get funds for job training to improve employment prospects.

“In a job market like this, realistically, people may be in for a long job search. Don’t get discouraged. Let our experts help. You really want to create a focused job strategy and we can help you develop that,” said Sharon Gould Afforde, an employment specialist at WorkSource.

The WorkSource Aerospace Center opened at the end of April 2009 to help dislocated workers find new jobs. The center, located on the Edmonds College campus, provides services including job search assistance, resume writing workshops, and training opportunities. It is open 8 a.m.-5 p.m. weekdays to anyone seeking work. The center was created with federal stimulus money for workforce development given to Snohomish County in recognition of the large numbers of workers here who are dependent on jobs in the aerospace industry, which has been struggling in the recession.
