Make Martin Luther King Jr. Day a day of service: Volunteer!

Join us for a day of service 9 a.m.-1 p.m., Mon., Jan. 18 at Gold Park in Lynnwood. Remove blackberry, ivy, and lamium to prepare the area for an ethnobotanical garden, which will be designed and installed by the college's Learn and Serve Environmental Anthropology Field School in partnership with the City of Lynnwood this winter.

Service-learning: Gold Park Restoration, 9 a.m.-1 p.m., Mon., January 18. Celebrate the Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service. Volunteer! Join us as we pull invasive weeds at our local Gold Park, and give back to our community. Remove blackberry, ivy, and lamium to prepare the area for an ethnobotanical garden, which will be designed and installed by the college's Learn and Serve Environmental Anthropology Field School in partnership with the City of Lynnwood this winter.

New Wilderness Project workshop, Maketa Wilborn and Benjie Howard of the New Wilderness Project present an educational program of multimedia performance art, Culturally Responsive Communities: A Creative Approach to Building Authentic Connections Across Difference, 9 a.m.-4 p.m., Fri., Jan. 29, Triton Union 202, Edmonds College. Free. Open to all. Explore how to create deeper cross-cultural connections within learning communities.

The session begins with a 45-minute multimedia performance of original music, poetry, prose and movement choreographed to images and video. The performance sets the tone for the rest of the session which explores the concept of cultural competence. This session provides a solid foundation for a personal journey toward social justice and equity. Space is limited at this workshop. Sign up early.
