Exceptional PE instructor is a reigning champion bodybuilder

Edmonds College Physical Education and Health instructor Janet Guenther won the 2010 Emerald Cup Overall Championships in April at the Snoqualmie Casino in Snoqualmie, Washington. Guenther, who also received the college's Echelbarger/Sherman Exceptional Faculty Award for outstanding instruction in 2008-09, is teaching: Intro to Sports-Fitness, PE 100; Women's Body Conditioning, PE 134; and Advanced Women's Body Conditioning, PE 234 this summer.
In October, at the 2009 NPC Washington Ironman Championships Guenther took first place in the Women's Masters Over 50 and Mixed Pairs categories. She also first place in both the Women’s Over 50 Competition and in the Pair’s Competition April 17-18 at the national 2009 Emerald Cup Bodybuilding, Fitness & Figure Championships in Bellevue. The Emerald Cup is the largest body building competition in the Northwest.
Guenther has been featured in The Herald, The Enterprise and The Seattle Times newspapers for her bodybuilding successes. She won the Vancouver Natural Classic “Overall” Women’s Bodybuilding Championship title in 2008 in Vancouver, Washington. She took third place at the Masters Nationals Bodybuilding Championships in Pittsburgh in 2007 after being named the overall master champion competing in the Women's Masters Bodybuilding Over 50 class at the 2007 Emerald Cup Bodybuilding, Fitness and Figure Championships April 21 in Bellevue, Wash.
A former Ms. Rodeo Washington, Guenther has been bodybuilding for 25 years and uses the sport to help manage her Type 1 diabetes.
Guenther's bodybuilding training regimen was featured in the June 2006 issue of Performance Press. In September 2005, Guenther won the Best Poser Award and was named the 2005 Washington Ironman Bodybuilding Champ for Master's Women's Class. She also received the Most Inspirational Award.
