Grants to study Energy Management: Info session Dec. 14

A Department of Labor State Energy Sector Partnership-SESP grant will pay tuition, books, and fees for students to earn short (two quarter) certificates in Energy Management. Start this winter. Target grant recipients are low income or unemployed.

Women and veterans are encouraged to enroll.

Attend an information session 3 p.m, Wednesday, Dec. 14 in Meadowdale Hall 221.

The certificates available are:

Energy Efficiency Technician

  • Learn about energy efficiency and weatherization projects. Gain core construction skills. Prepare for entry-level jobs working to achieve energy efficiency.
  • The first graduates of this program may have their resumes reviewed by The Boeing Company, which is hiring entry-level technicians.
  • Classes include: Core Construction Skills, CIT 103 and 104; Energy Basics, ENRGY 102; Resumes and Interviewing, JOBDV 110, and Small Business Management, MGMT 260.

Energy Accounting Specialist

  • Learn to analyze the amount of energy used at a site as well as the basics of conservation.
  • Ideal for bachelor’s degree holders or those who have attained a journey-level trade who wish to retrain/add skills.
  • Classes include: Introduction to Sustainability, ENRGY 105; Energy Assessment and Analysis, ENRGY 130; Energy Accounting, ENRGY 135; and Resumes and Interviewing, JOBDV 110.

Grants recipients will work with WorkSource/Workforce Investment Act (WIA) on their job search.

This grant is funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act through the U.S. Department of Labor, this is a statewide project of the Washington State Energy Sector Partnership, led by the Workforce Training and Education Coordinating Board with partners that include: Washington State Evergreen Jobs Leadership Team, Snohomish County, and Seattle-King County and Spokane Area Workforce Development Councils. More than half of the funding, about 51 percent, comes from the U.S. Department of Labor through a $5,973,635 grant.
