Community and technical college board to grapple with budget issues09/13/2011
The board will discuss the 2012 supplemental operating budget request and take action on the 2012 supplemental capital budget request for the college system, as well as a tuition waiver for low-income Running Start students, and revisions to the SBCTC employee retirement plan. The board will also consider a motion to bring forward a previously tabled question of action to approve a declaration of financial emergency. State law provides for an expedited or streamlined layoff process of tenured or tenure-track faculty during a financial emergency. Such a declaration does not mandate layoffs nor require colleges to take any additional personnel actions unless the local trustees deem those actions necessary. Except for executive sessions, all meetings are open to the public.
