The Schack Art Center is proud to present: Creation of Identity: Artworks by Edmonds College Students

The Visual Arts department at Edmonds College is a collective effort by the art, photography and visual communication departments. Students from the Visual Arts programs as well as the Art Club, present work developed in their courses. The focus of their work is an introduction to self-discovery and an articulation of one’s identity.

Students in the Visual Arts programs come from diverse backgrounds, and range in age, interests, and educational goals. This group of individuals consist of artists and non-artists alike, both working on the exploration of the creative process, as well as fulfilling their degree requirements.

The Visual Arts instructors are experts in their fields, and consist of three full time faculty and 10-12 part-time faculty. They work with the students to offer a wide variety of opportunities, such as exploring talents, learning techniques, finding ones medium, and building a portfolio.

The Visual Arts department is proud to announce the newly remodeled facility on the Edmonds College campus, Meadowdale Hall, which is the home and expanded studios for Art, Photography and Visual Communication classes.

The artworks featured in the slideshow (as well as at the exhibit) are by Benjamin Aaron Vanderwerff:

  • “Untitled,” acrylic on canvas
  • “Scream,” soft pastel on sandpaper
  • “200 hours of work for 7 seconds of your time,” medium soft pastel on sandpaper
