Edmonds CC announces Earth Month events

Edmonds College has several events planned in conjunction with Earth Month that are open to the public.

Here is a list of events, which extend into May.

Earth Month Kick-Off Event

12:30 p.m., Thurs., April 11 | Black Box Theatre

Peter Ward: “In Celebration of Earth Month” Ward is a paleontologist and professor of Geological Sciences at the University of Washington. He specializes in the Cretaceous-Tertiary extinction event (the one that killed the dinosaurs). His books include “Under a Green Sky: Global Warming, the Mass Extinctions of the Past, and What They Can Tell Us About Our Future” and “The Flooded Earth: Our Future In a World Without Ice Caps.”

Gold Park Ethnobotanical Garden Earth Day Celebration

10 a.m.-2 p.m. Sat., April 20 | Gold Park, Lynnwood

Join Edmonds CC LEAF (Learn and Serve Environmental Anthropology School) for its annual work party at Gold Park. Experience traditional song and dance, meet community members dedicated to a healthy and sustainable planet, and help in planting and building trails throughout the park. Climate Change: A Visual Realization

12:30-2 p.m., Thurs., May 2 | Black Box Theater

The topic: Global climate change threatening our world. There will be a visual portrayal of this global threat by combining the trailer of the film “Chasing Ice” and a taped lecture from the filmmaker, James Balog. The event includes a panel discussion and conversation with the audience about how to address sustainability and climate change.

Edmonds College 28th annual Powwow

Fri., May 3–Sun., May 5 | Seaview Gym

The Edmonds College Native American Student Association event brings students, family, and community together to celebrate our diverse culture through singing, drumming, dancing, food, and arts and crafts.

Cultural Kitchen Construction

2-5 p.m., Tues. and Wed., May 7-8 | Edmonds CC

The Cultural Kitchen is located in the southwest corner of the college’s community garden. Come help us rebuild our cob oven and surrounding benches. Dress in work clothing that can get dirty. Meet out in the Community Garden. Sign up at www.edmonds.edu/servicelearning.

Celebration of Food Festival

10 a.m.–6 p.m., Sun., May 19 | Lynnwood Convention CenterThe Celebration of Food Festival, co-sponsored by Edmonds CC, is a free, family event where participants can taste, explore, and experience real food. The event brings together people who are passionate about sustainable, local, organic and wholesome food. Farmers, ranchers, culinary professionals, high school and college students, 4-H youth, and innovative business owners will offer displays, samples, and activities.

Sustainability Around the World Panel

3 p.m. Thurs., May 23 | Edmonds CC Woodway 202

International students at Edmonds CC will show how they’re addressing environmental challenges and taking positive actions related to issues in their home countries at the sixth annual event.
