Workplace expert Bob Rosner will speak at Edmonds College on May 23.

Students and workers living in Snohomish and King counties will be given the tools to “go further” in their educations and careers when best-selling author and workplace expert Bob Rosner speaks Thursday, May 23, in the Black Box Theatre at Edmonds College, 20000 68th Ave. W.

The event, at 12:30 p.m., is sponsored by Edmonds CC and WGU Washington. It’s free and open to the public.

Rosner will provide insight into what employers demand in the evolving employment market and how workers can get the jobs they want. His hour-long, interactive presentation, “Go Further: Beyond Survival – Thriving in Today’s Workplace,” tackles the toughest challenges facing job seekers and workers, while offering tips and tools for success.

Rosner, known as “Dilbert with a solution,” has appeared on the “Today” show, “60 Minutes” and in People magazine. He’s a regular contributor for Seattle’s “Q13 Fox News” and KIRO-FM 97.3 and has served as an adjunct professor in the MBA programs at Seattle University and Seattle Pacific University.

Statistics bear out the need for the “tools” Rosner provides.

In five years, two-thirds of the jobs in Washington will require a college education, according to a recent Georgetown University study. “But the U.S. Census Bureau says almost 60 percent of workers in our state lack even an associate’s degree,” said Rosner. “This is called ‘structural unemployment,’ but most of us know it as the knot in our stomach when we're stuck. This presentation helps workers and students entering the job market get unstuck ... and ‘go further.’ ”
