Third annual Celebration of Food Festival at Lynnwood Convention Center May 18

Food Revolution Snohomish County, a movement aimed at encouraging growing, cooking, preserving, and eating real and healthy food, brings the Celebration of Food Festival to Lynnwood for the third straight year.

The festival is a free, family event where participants can taste, explore, and experience real food from 11 a.m.-4 p.m., Sun., May 18, at the Lynnwood Convention Center, 3711 196th St. SW, Lynnwood.

"This event brings together people who are passionate about delicious, local, wholesome food," said organizer Chris Hudyma. "Farmers, ranchers, culinary professionals, youth, students, and business owners will offer activities to inspire the enjoyment of real food."

Highlights of the festival include:

  • Eight presentations — plus several Q&A sessions — featuring Ciscoe Morris ("Beyond Brussel Sprouts: Growing all Types of Veggies") and Cynthia Lair ("Nutrition for the Young Athlete");
  • Growing demonstration by Farmer Frog and Edmonds CC Sustainable Agriculture Education program;
  • Children's reading tent and book giveaway;
  • Hands-on kids' food and kitchen skills station; and
  • Celebrate Your Preserves contest.

The event will include free food samples, food demonstrations for children and adults, displays, and items for purchase.

More than thirty vendors, with products ranging from ice cream to vegetables and from honey to chocolate, are confirmed for the event. They include Gelatoicious, Theo Chocolate, Mt. Townsend Creamery, Whole Foods, SnoIsle Natural Food, and Cats Paws Bees.

Farms from throughout Snohomish County will be represented, including: Biringer Farm of Arlington, Red Rabbit Farm of Orcas Island, Shambala Farm of Camano Island, Mother Nature's Organics of Lake Stevens, Skipley Farm of Snohomish, and Smith Bros Farm of Kent. Also represented are the farmer's markets of Everett and Snohomish.

There will also be displays and information offered by farm and garden professionals, including Farmer Frog's Grow Your Own Food display and Edmonds CC's Sustainable Agriculture Education program, to show the benefits of growing your own food. Resources will be available to help both children and adults learn about growing, cooking, and preserving food.

The Celebration of Food Festival is sponsored by Central Market, City of Lynnwood, Edmonds College and the college's Campus Green Fund, Grow Northwest, PCC Natural Markets, Swedish Edmonds, Verdant Health Commission, Whole Foods Markets, and the Cascade Harvest Coalition.
