Edmonds College to host drive-through commencement and virtual ceremony on June 17

Edmonds College will host an on-campus, drive-through commencement celebration 2-5 p.m. on Friday, June 17, in Lots C and D (near Seaview Gym). The college will also release a commencement ceremony video at edmonds.edu/commencement starting at noon.

Edmonds College will celebrate 2022 Commencement on Friday, June 17.

The ceremony is open to all GED, high school diploma, degree, and certificate completers from summer 2021 to summer 2022. In all, 1,475 Edmonds College students are eligible to participate.

“The 2022 graduating class persisted through a challenging academic climate,” said EC President Dr. Amit B. Singh. “I commend them for their grit and perseverance. The fortitude they displayed at Edmonds College will serve them well in their future endeavors.”

Faculty and staff will cheer on graduates as they drive or walk through the celebration route. A photo booth staffed by GradImages and a reception with cupcakes and beverages at the end of the route, next to Hazel Miller Hall, will be available for participants. 

The commencement video will feature a welcome from student government liaison Puneet Birk and student speakers Anna Fridell and Ahmad Hilal Abid. Fridell was a standout on the Triton softball team, and Abid was a student leader and organization coordinator within the Center for Student Engagement & Leadership. 

Campus leadership speakers include President Singh and Brent Leithauser, an instructor in the allied health program. Lia Andrews from the department of social sciences will deliver the land acknowledgment. 

2021-22 Edmonds College Highlights

• Two EC students were honored as President’s Student Civic Leadership Award recipients, including Ahmad Hilal Abid, the school’s first recipient of the Governor’s Student Civic Leadership Award.
• The EC Foundation awarded more than $258,000 in scholarships to 132 EC students.
• Washington State ACT (Association of College Trustees) recognized EC instructor David Breed with the Faculty Member Award and Cathy Jackson and T-Mobile as Partner of the Year for their work with Edmonds College. 
• EC will now offer four Bachelor of Applied Science programs after introducing three new BAS programs in the fall of 2022. 
• The Construction pre-Apprenticeship Program received contributions of $150,000 from Sound Transit to launch in 2021 and received state recognition in January.
• The Edmonds College Foundation raised $372,000 for the Student Success Fund during the INSPIRE 2022 Benefit. 
• Edmonds College created the Triton Student Resource Hub on the north end of campus. The hub includes a food pantry, a 2-1-1 community resource advocate, a financial emergency navigator, and an outreach specialist for veterans.   
• The Washington State Board for Community and Technical Colleges (SBCTC) awarded Edmonds College two grants totaling more than $800,000 to support students experiencing homelessness and those needing emergency assistance.
• EC and its partner Workforce Snohomish were awarded $360,000 to fund the Snohomish County Homeless Veterans’ Reintegration Program (HVRP). 
• Edmonds College Foundation was awarded a $170,000 grant from Verdant to expand mental health services.
• The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) announced a continuation of a $6,250,285 grant for Edmonds College’s Head Start program.
