Get moving for student success at Edmonds CC

10/26/16

The Edmonds Community College Foundation will hold its inaugural 5K Walk and Run on Saturday, Nov. 19, to promote healthy living within our community while raising funds for student success.

Join in this community event to help the Edmonds CC Foundation fund student scholarships, emergency assistance funds, and innovation grants.

“Last year, the Foundation provided over $300,000 in funding to keep Edmonds CC students in class and on track with their higher education goals when faced with financial challenges, ranging from ongoing financial hardships to one-time emergencies,” said Foundation Executive Director Brad Thomas. “We were able to do this with the generous support we receive from the community through fundraisers and donations.

“Edmonds CC students are the future leaders of our community, and we invite you to join us to walk and run for their success and that of our community.”

Walkers and runners of every level are encouraged to participate. Individual and team rates are available.

Individuals can register for the early bird rate of $35 from now through Nov. 1. Registration goes to $40 through Nov. 18, and $45 the day of the event.

Groups are also encouraged to enter. Gather your family, friends, community members, or coworkers together and form a team.

“We encourage local churches, police stations, fire departments, medical offices, and local businesses to become team sponsors in support of student success at Edmonds CC,” Thomas said. “This event offers a fun and engaging way to promote team building while giving back to your community.”

Team registrations include up to 10 walkers and/or runners. Team sponsorships will also be acknowledged along the course, and prizes will also be awarded for best dressed, best team spirit, and most funds raised by a team.

Team registration is $500 and is due by Nov. 12.

The race will begin in the Edmonds CC campus courtyard, wrap around the Lynnwood Municipal Golf Course trail, and back through campus. Onsite registration begins at 8 a.m. Runners will start at 9 a.m. followed by walkers at 9:05 a.m.

Participants will be treated to live music, tasty treats, athletic scrimmages, and special student vignettes throughout the course and at the after party beginning at 9:30 a.m.

Children’s activities include face painting, a stamp card competition, and courtyard games.

Event registration is now open.
