ECED& 120 - PRACT/NURTURE/RELATIONS

2 units, online, arranged Zoom meetings. Instructor: Heather Bruno-Peterson

Students will apply theories of best practice in an early learning setting. Focus will be on developing supportive relationships while keeping children healthy and safe. Permit code required. S/U grade option


ECE 120 - MATHEMATICS FOR ECE

5 credits, online, Thursday 6-8 p.m. Zoom meeting. Instructor: Joanne Califano

Mathematical knowledge and skills that strengthen an appreciation and basic competency in mathematics. Investigation of math concepts and strategies based on content relevant to teaching mathematics at the early childhood level. Prerequisite: Placement into MATH 077 or instructor permission.


ECE 130 - SCIENCE FOR ECE

3 units, online. Instructor:  Heather Bruno-Peterson

Focuses on strengthening knowledge of life and physical sciences that build a foundation for young children's understanding of science. Students actively learn strategies that encourage inquiry and problem-solving in teaching science at the early childhood level.


EDUC& 130 - GUIDING BEHAVIOR

3 units, online, Wednesday optional Zoom meeting, in-person option, and fully online with no meeting time required. Instructor:  Heather Bruno- Peterson

Flexible Learning Course: Students may choose to attend in person in the classroom, join live via Zoom, or complete equivalent work independently online. Instructor will provide additional information on attendance options and requirements.

Examine the principles and theories promoting social competence in young children and creating safe learning environments. Develop skills promoting effective interactions, providing positive individual guidance, and enhancing group experiences. S/U grade option.


EDUC& 115 – CHILD DEVELOPMENT

5 units, online, Monday 6-8 p.m. Zoom meetings, or on-person. Instructor:  Nicole Traore

Flexible Learning Course: Students may choose to attend in person in the classroom or join live via Zoom. Instructor will provide additional information on attendance options and requirements.

Build foundation for explaining how children develop in all domains, prenatal through early adolescence. Explore developmental theories, methods for documenting growth, and impact of brain development.


ECED& 139 - ADMIN OF EARLY LEARNING

3 credits, online. Instructor: Sandra Arnold-Sturgis

Develop administrative skills required to develop, open, operate, manage, and assess early childhood education and care programs. Explore techniques and resources available for Washington state licensing and NAEYC standard compliance. S/U grade option.


ECED& 180 - LANGUAGE & LITERACY

3 units, online. Instructor: Heather Bruno-Peterson

Develop teaching strategies for language acquisition and literacy skill development at each developmental stage, birth to age eight, through the four interrelated areas of speaking, listening, writing, and reading. S/U grade option.


ECED& 105 - INTRO EARLY CHILDHOOD ED

5 units, online. Instructor: Nicole Traore

Explore the foundations of early childhood education. Examine theories defining the field, issues and trends, best practices, and program models. Observe children, professionals, and programs in action. S/U grade option.


ECE 250 - CONNECTING WITH FAMILIES

3 units, Tuesday 6-8 p.m. Zoom meetings, or in person. Instructor: Sandra Arnold

Investigates teaching strategies using a relationship-based approach that supports infants, toddlers, and preschoolers. Concepts address the trust and independence of children through responsive teacher-child interactions and respectful parent-teacher partnerships. S/U grade option.


EDUC& 202 - INTRO TO EDUCATION

5 units, online. Instructor: Joanne Califano

Introductory education course that involves students in the real issues of schooling, skills and knowledge they will need to be successful professionals. Course is organized around elements that are central to teaching and learning in the K-12 education system. Class includes additional off-campus learning experiences.


ECE 208, 209 & 210 - FIELD PRACTICUM

5 units, online seminar meetings, and canvas coursework assignments. Instructors: Sandy Arnold and Heather Perterson-Bruno.

A field based course to further growth as an early childhood professional. A variety of learning experiences are carried out for the children and practicum students. Focus is on application of concepts from previous ECE coursework. Note: Seminar schedule for spring quarter 2023 is April 5, May 3, June 7.  9:30-11 a.m. Zoom meeting required. Instructor permission required.
