Edmonds Career Access Program (EdCAP)

EdCAP provides the opportunity to earn:

• GED^®
• High School Diploma issued by Edmonds School District
• Professional-Technical Certificates
• Associate Degrees
  • Students who earn an AA with EdCAP can bypass the state's 24-credit graduation requirements and apply for an Edmonds College diploma.
• Or a combination of these!

In addition, many students can use this as an opportunity for skill building, career exploration, or learning English.

Key support provided by EdCAP:

• Free tuition, course fees, textbooks, and mandatory course supplies
• EdCAP introductory course to build academic habits
• One-on-one case management and advising support every quarter along the way
• Career exploration and skill development opportunities
• Support with the next steps after graduation

Benefits of being at Edmonds College:

• Flexible schedules allow you to build school into your life, not the other way around. Classes are offered at a variety of times of day, and schedules typically end up having 2-4 days on campus, and depending on class choices between 5-15 hours of class a week, with homework time varying by class
• Extended eligibility allows students to work at their level and pace. Students are able to take college and/or high school level classes with EdCAP as long as they meet the prerequisites
• Edmonds College has many helpful resources for all students
• Edmonds College offers a robust list of academic programs that students can choose from. Students are able to focus on the topics that are most relevant to what they want to study
• You are treated like an adult on our campus

Important things to consider:

• EdCAP does not provide the same resources as local high schools, this includes transportation and/or meals
• EdCAP Complies with Edmonds College's FERPA policies, meaning parents/guardians are not automatically given access to student records and information
• EdCAP students who are under 18 are not given any special allowances or considerations due to their age
• Taking classes at the college will expose students to a variety of ideas, philosophies, and materials that some may not deem suitable for younger students
• EdCAP is not an online school, or a credit retrieval program. Students enrolling will transfer fully to our school. 

Students are eligible if they meet the following criteria:

• Do not currently have a high school diploma (GEDs are OK)
• Currently lives in Washington state
• Are at least 16 and not yet 21 on or before Sept. 1 of the school year they wish to begin
• Be significantly credit deficient or have a counselor recommendation stating that they are unlikely to graduate by the age of 21

Once students are eligible, they will remain eligible until:

• They are awarded a high school diploma
• They are awarded an associate degree
• August of the school year in which they turn 21 (for example, a student that turns 21 in July will age out the next month, August. A student that turns 21 in September will age out the August of the following year)
