Involvement in a Parent Education Co-op Preschool is also available for parents of two- to five-year-olds at the above community co-op preschools. Co-op preschools start in September and end in May. Depending on the children's ages, classes vary in time and length. Usually, four-year-olds attend in the afternoon, while two- and three-year-olds attend in the morning from two to four days each week.
Teachers provide age-appropriate experiences for the children and opportunities for parents to support their child's growing needs through planned classroom activities. The program is designed to benefit both parents and children. A typical class includes parent-supervised activities, such as music, snack, and active times.
Each preschool has a required evening meeting once per month. Co-op members discuss preschool business, classroom curricula and meet with the college instructor. These discussions include topics such as child development, classroom issues, current research and parenting topics.
