College Policy: Satisfactory Academic Progress is defined as achieving a minimum 2.0 grade point average (GPA) for each quarter of enrollment. The college also monitors the completion of courses students attempt to take each quarter.
The policy applies to all enrolled students – see exceptions below*. Students who do not maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress may be placed on Academic Concern, Academic Restriction, or Academic Suspension status.
Academic Concern
Students who do not maintain a minimum 2.0 quarterly GPA will be placed on Academic Concern. Students on Academic Concern will be contacted and encouraged to take advantage of available campus resources to improve their academic standing. Academic Concern will be removed once a student has satisfactorily completed a subsequent quarter of enrollment.
Academic Restriction
Students on Academic Concern, who again fall below a minimum 2.0 quarterly GPA, will be placed on Academic Restriction. Students on Academic Restriction will not be allowed to register for classes until they have submitted an Academic Success Plan and it has been approved by an academic adviser. Academic Restriction will be removed once a student has satisfactorily completed a subsequent quarter of enrollment.
Academic Suspension
Students on Academic Restriction, who again fall below a minimum 2.0 quarterly GPA, will be placed on Academic Suspension for a period of one year. Students on Academic Suspension are not allowed to register for classes until they have submitted an Academic Success Plan and it has been approved by an academic adviser. Academic Suspension will be removed for students who successfully appeal and then satisfactorily complete a subsequent quarter of enrollment, or at the end of one calendar year.
*Exceptions: Students participating in some special enrollment programs, which include financial aid, Running Start, International Student Services, EdCAP, and High School Completion, will need to meet the academic standards and completion requirements of those programs. Students should also be aware that some other campus programs have additional academic progress standards that must be maintained as a requirement of participation.
