“During this time of upheaval, our graduates have shown extraordinary resolve,” said EC President Dr. Amit B. Singh. “They have enriched our classrooms, strengthened our community, and proven themselves as leaders. I’d like to congratulate all 2020 graduates for achieving their academic goal.”

Brenda Obonyo, who served as student government executive officer for administration, will be this year’s student commencement speaker. Obonyo earned an associate in science degree from EC. She will transfer to the University of Washington this fall to study informatics.

“We fought hard and overcame so much to get to where we are now,” said Obonyo. “The fact that we got here is a testament to our resilience.”

Please note: All 2020 EC graduates are invited to walk in the 2021 Commencement ceremony at 1 p.m. Saturday, June 19, 2021, at the Angel of the Winds Arena in Everett. Graduates' families and friends are also invited to attend.

2019-20 Highlights

  • We changed our name to Edmonds College on April 13. The new name reflects our addition of four-year degrees. We currently offer one Bachelor of Applied Science (BAS) degree in Child, Youth, and Family Studies, we will launch our second in Information Technology – Application Development this fall, and next year we will add the newly-approved BAS in Advanced Manufacturing and Materials Engineering Technology. Another two BAS degrees are in development. Our BAS programs are approved and accredited by the State Board for Community & Technical Colleges and the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities.
  • We responded to the local health care industry’s need for personal protective equipment (PPE) by prototyping and manufacturing face shields to protect health care workers during COVID-19.
  • We received our largest donation ever: $1.5 million from the Hazel Miller Foundation. The gift supports our new 70,000-square-foot Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) and Nursing building, as well as STEM scholarships, programs, and technology.
  • We launched the Idea Lab — a permanent innovation incubator — to respond to the rapid transformations taking place in higher education. The lab brings together about 20 faculty and staff from all levels of the organization to brainstorm, incubate, evaluate, and mobilize innovative solutions to create a change-ready and adaptive college.
  • We launched the Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship, which will serve as a hub where community members can network, connect with resources, and take classes.
  • Our College in the High School program was granted accreditation by the National Alliance of Concurrent Enrollment Partnerships (NACEP) for its high levels of academic oversight of its college courses taught at local high schools.
  • Our Center for Families (CFF) was recognized for excellence as a child care provider by the Washington State Department of Children, Youth, and Families. Our Center for Families child care center serves hundreds of children, from infants to five-year-olds, giving them a great start while their parents get the education.
