Quinn McNichol
In the studio, Quinn McNichol listens to folk music that reminds them of their dad
and reads novels that recalls their mother’s influence; they research astrology and
Irish ancestors; they listen to the news, pull tarot cards and reflect on dreams.
While moving fluidly between tending their medicinal herb garden and their studio, Mcnichol reflects on this wide net of influences, seeking to bridge their daily fears and anxieties with a dreaming, playful mind in the form of paintings, drawings, sewn fabric sculptures and cut-paper collages.
Quinn McNichol grew up in Glenside, Pennsylvania and began their painting studies in high school with Philadelphia artist Marcia Jones. After earning their BFA, Quinn spent a summer visiting Romanian artist Alice Schwager at her home studio in the woods of Lancaster County to explore spiritual art therapies and expand their emotional perception of their creative practice.
Several summers spent at Mount Gretna School of Art (MGSoA) have been incredibly impactful to Quinn’s creative career and studio practice. In 2019 McNichol moved to the Pacific Northwest to continue their formal studies in Painting & Drawing at University of Washington in Seattle WA. Now a member of SOIL, an artist-run gallery located in Pioneer Square in Seattle, Quinn often takes extended travels around the continental US in their little blue truck.
