Guide to Emergency Preparedness: Evacuation

The evacuation of a building will be conducted when a situation threatens your safety and you are required to leave a building.

What To Do

If you hear an alarm or you are told to evacuate a building:

  1. Stay calm.
  2. Exit the building immediately using the nearest safe route.
  3. Close all doors but leave them unlocked.
  4. Walk quickly to the nearest marked exit and alert others to do the same.
  5. Do not use elevators.
  6. Go to evacuation assembly areas.
  7. If someone is trapped in a building, notify emergency responders.
  8. Follow instructions from emergency responders.
  9. Assist persons with disabilities.
