What We do
LIVE, LEARN & THRIVE!
At Edmonds College Housing and Residence Life, our mission is to create a welcoming and enriching environment where every resident can live safely, focus on their studies to succeed, and sleep comfortably. We are committed to providing our residents with:
- Accommodations - Our priority is to provide you with a safe and clean living environment.
- Community Building - We are committed to building a strong community and living experience.
- Learning - We provide experiences and resources that give you an environment that nurtures academic achievement.
- Development - We engage you in the areas of personal wellness, integrity, and social relationships.
- Global Inclusiveness - We celebrate understanding diversity and intercultural connection.
RESIDENTIAL EDUCATION GOALS
We in Housing strive to impart a high quality residential education upon all who live in our residence halls by encouraging growth along these goals:
- Achieving Self-Sufficiency - Our residents live in apartments with their own bedroom, bathroom, and kitchen and thus learn how to attend to their own needs
- Practicing Self-Advocacy - By working with us in Housing to create and sign their own leases and also report and manage maintenance issues, residents are able to practice advocating for themselves
- Managing Financials - Residents are responsible for staying on top of payment deadlines for their rent and Housing fees and are expected to manage their financial resources responsibly in order to honor those deadlines
- Learning to Live with Roommates - The vast majority of our residents live with apartment mates and, with the support of our team of Resident Assistants (RAs), are responsible for keeping themselves and their roommates accountable while sharing common spaces in their apartment
- Participating in a Diverse Community - Our residential community boasts a very high level of diversity among nationalities, ethnicities, cultural backgrounds, spiritualities, gender identities, sexual orientations, and class backgrounds, and residents are encouraged to connect with fellow residents of various identity backgrounds and to learn from each other in this way
- Aiming to Make Friends & Connections - From RAs’ monthly drop-in hours to the many events held in the residence halls throughout the year, residents are offered many opportunities to meet people and make new friends and connections
- Honing Cooking Skills - With full kitchens provided in each apartment, residents are encouraged to learn to take care of their needs by learning to cook for themselves
- Striving for Effective Communication - While living with apartment mates, within our residential community, and also on a lease offered by us in Housing, residents are faced with many opportunities to work on their communication skills to ensure they are addressing their needs, concerns, and desires effectively with their roommates, floor-/hall-mates, and Housing staff
- Navigating Deadlines - From surveys to payment deadlines, residents are given many deadlines throughout the year and must learn to navigate them effectively
GET INVOLVED!
We encourage students to take an active role in their campus community through our leadership and engagement opportunities
- Housing Events
- Housing Ambassadors (HAs)
- The Housing Ambassador program is a volunteer team of students who work with the Resident Assistants and International Mentors. Housing Ambassadors will create opportunities for students to join school activities, connect with the community, and learn to work in a professional setting.
- Resident Assistants (RAs)
- RAs are Edmonds College students who live in the residence halls. They help you adjust to life at Edmonds College, respond to emergencies, and help build community in the residence halls. One RA is always on-call when the Housing office is closed.
- Here is what our RAs get help you with:
- Equipment Checkout (gaming equipment, carts, and cleaning supplies)
- Roommate Mediations
- Student Services Resource guidance
- and More!
- Triton RA on-call: 425.308.0089
- Rainier RA on-call: 425.308.4665
- Our RA team for the year!
- International Mentors
- IMs are Edmonds College Students that help support students living in our Homestay Program. They are assigned groups of new students each quarter to connect with you and also partner with the RAs to coordinate our Living Learning Communities.
